June 2020 marks 51 years since the Stonewall Riots which laid the foundation for contemporary queer rights movements. Unfortunately, modern Pride seems to have forgotten its roots in riots against police harassment and brutality. The once deeply political event now tips towards being celebratory, apolitical, and hence, exclusionary towards sexual and gender minorities facing multiple, overlapping systems of marginalization.
